The Lake Trail is the best free thing on the island. Five and a half miles of paved path run along the Intracoastal, from South Lake Drive near Peruvian Avenue north to a terminus just past the Sailfish Club, with the back gardens of the island's estates on one side and the water on the other.
Two short interruptions send walkers onto sidewalks; the rest is continuous and well kept. Paid public parking at South Lake Drive and Peruvian Avenue is the practical starting point, and bicycles are the local method.
